As I brought in these photos to share, tears welled up in my eyes— and that seems silly because it’s not even my proposal, and I had just met Colton + Amber on THIS day!! Over the last year or two I’ve had the opportunity to capture more and more proposals, and hands down they are some of my favorite things ever. Just like weddings, each one is so different, so carefully and intricately planned— designed to showcase the love that the two have for one another, and what brought them together. Whether that be a place, an activity, a moment or memory to relive— they’re each unique to the couple themselves.
Colton and Amber’s hiking proposal here in Idaho, will tug at anybody’s heart strings. Colton reached out to me on Instagram a few weeks prior to him wanting to pop the question, asking if I was available anytime over the next few weeks to capture the moment. Due to a few postponements and switches to weddings in June, I unfortunately (for those bride and grooms having to postpone) and fortunately was available to make it happen! There was NO hesitation from Colton, he knew he wanted me to be there for it, and that is something that I hold so close! He started a group chat with all the people involved that he cared so much about to be there— his cousin who was going to fly the drone, a good friend who was going to be playing the guitar + singing one of their favorite songs as him and Amber walked up the trail— and then myself to capture it all. A few weeks of planning and conversing— and we were to set out on the trailhead that led up to an old mine, a hike that they had previously done together and fell in love with. I do have to say that Colton might have swindled us all by downplaying how steep the hike was at certain parts 😉 haha. But oh so well worth it. We got to the top where the old mine overlooked the foothills above the Boise Valley, and it was a perfectly cloudy day— where the storm held off for JUST the right amount of time. The plan was that a “good old friend” (myself), asked to take pictures of Amber and Colton on one of their favorite trails for fun, and Amber didn’t suspect a thing— she was just stoked to get pictures done!! I met them a little before the mine, where we introduced ourselves and played if off like a regular shoot would play out. We started taking a few pictures, making our way to the mine. We turned the corner to the mine and you could tell Amber was starting to get confused, anxious, and then had a hint as to what was going on. They walked the old rickety bridge to their friend playing the guitar, with the words pouring out to their favorite song— and Amber just burst into tears— it was the sweetest most special moment!!
I adore these two to no end, it was such an incredible day to be a part of. After she said yes, we all made our way back down the trail— pit stopping in open green fields as the rain came down and just celebrated their love. It was such a blast getting to know these two, hearing their stories + their hearts, and ultimately creating new friendships. SO excited for the both of them and the adventures and life they have ahead of them, and couldn’t be happier for them!! And Colton— WELL DONE— so freaking well planned, it was beautiful and will be remembered for all the years to come!!
